In life there are only a small number of people who we choose to keep in our hearts.
Over the years a lot come in and go out– lovers, friends, family…
Some of them hang around for a while,
and some want to stay even after we order them to leave.
But only a handful, no more than two handfuls if you are very lucky, are welcome forever.

fleeting time

When you’re young you think all the glory is waiting for you just around the corner
and when it comes it will last a long time.
But when you’ve had some life experience you know joy is a fleeting thing
that must be recognized and embraced fully WHENEVER we get it.

I don’t often miss people.
I miss vibes, energies and connections.

You ruin your life by desensitizing yourself.
We are all afraid to say too much, to feel too deeply, to let people know what they mean to us. Caring is not synonymous with crazy.
Expressing to someone how special they are to you will make you vulnerable. There is no denying that.
However, that is nothing to be ashamed of.
There is something breathtakingly beautiful in the moments of smaller magic that occur when you strip down
and are honest with those who are important to you.
Let that girl know that she inspires you.
Tell your mother you love her in front of your friends.
Express, express, express.
Open yourself up, do not harden yourself to the world,
and be bold in who, and how you love.
There is courage in that.

Does he treat you with respect at all times? That’s the first question.
The second question is, if he is the exact same person twenty years from now that he is today, would you still want to marry him?
And finally, does he inspire to be a better person? You find someone you can answer yes to all three, then you’ve found a good man.

Loving someone should be hard and active, not easy and passive.
When you sign up to actually love people – no fakers allowed –
then you sign up for a life of runny noses, awkward car rides,
hugs that last too long, pauses that demand no noise,
and admitting you were wrong.
If you want to actually love people
then you have to be willing to be wrong.
Love is forgiveness. And it’s atonement.
And it’s basically like putting your soul in a washing machine –
it’s not some gentle cycle, it’s a fierce whipping that rings you out good.
It makes the stains fade.
Best of all, it fills the holes.

A soulmate is not someone who shares your interests and is attractive to you.
A soulmate is someone who is willing to grow with you,
who chooses to be with you until the end, and will love you through good and bad.
It’s not about sunshine and laughter,
it’s about mundane moments filled with unknowns.
Love is so much more than a spark you have, or passions shared,
it’s working for something deeper and lasting.
I think that at the end of all things, we’ll see what really matters,
and I think the things we produced with love and grace
will be what we have to show.
So love with purpose, love beyond yourself,
and love knowing that what you are growing is beautiful and good.

And I cried. For myself.
For this woman talkin’ about love.
For all the women who have ever stretched their bodies out anticipating
civilization and finding ruins.

hope

I hope that I get to see you love what you are.
To know yourself as a gift and worth and truth.
That you see what a huge thing it is to have the courage to break your own heart.
That you have chosen wholeness - even when it has shattered you.
And that you will one day see that you can be whole and broken in the exact same spaces, that they nestle side by side - and that this is the way of things.
Not your punishment for wrongdoing, or for not trying hard enough -
but just the way of things.
